Collaborative Partnership Choice

My choice of creative partnership is... Samantha Walker

The three briefs we are going to choose from...Femfresh, Morrisons & Dominoes

What have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?

Even though me and Sam are friends I haven't chosen her because of this reason. I think that we will work well together as we both have different strengths. I have an hand rendered style, and she has a very structured style. Therefore, I think we will help each other to try out new skills.
Sam is very organised and controls everything down to the last minute and although, I organise my time I am not as structured as Sam and therefore I think I will have a good effect on Sam due to her been too strict on herself. And she will give me a push to plan my time better.
Our aims are to tell each other our thoughts, as this is another issue we have both found is not speaking up in collaborative work before and this is something we will feel able to do due to our close relationship. Although, we have made a pact to not take anything personally and that we are only trying to better each other, and take strengths to made each other better as a designer.

What are your specific areas of creative interest in these briefs?

The briefs that we have chosen are very much about promotion and therefore these will need good strong concepts. I think that this will therefore help be build on this, as this is something that I want to build on.
I want to strengthen my idea of a concept, as I think of one then stick with it rather than developing on it. I also want to work more with packaging & layout design. This I do believe is a strength of Sam's and therefore I am hoping to learn something from her within this area.

What specific design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?

I tend to use a hand rendered style which depending on which avenue we go down I think I could use these skills within the design. Also my crafting skills are quite strong, and therefore, if we chose to do packaging for one of the briefs then this will come in handy.

What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?

I think I have the strength of distributing my time well as I have needed to develop this skill over the past 18 months due to my other priorities outside of my degree. Therefore, I will be able to maximise our time to spend on this brief without effecting the others.
Also, I can drive therefore, I can either pick up Sam or go to Sam's house so we can show each others work and work together from time to time. As this could have been a big issue due to living quite far apart.

What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your briefs?

I will make sure that I fully understand the brief before starting the design. This is due to this been a competition so every detail matters due to restrictions for current brands.
Although, at the moment we are not too sure which brief we are going to do, so this will then be divided once we have decided fully on our collaborative competition brief, as our briefs have very different outcomes.

What do you think your individual responsibilities will be in relation to your brief?

I am going to attempt more of a layout role whereas Sam is going to do more designing apps due to the her strength in working in layouts.

What do you think your joint responsibilities will be?

Our joint responsibilities are to make sure we meet all deadlines, like crits and make sure we don't let each other down. We need to make sure we are both doing the same amount of work, but not to override our other projects. Also, our final responsibility will be make sure we are both happy with the final outcome and that we both will speak up if we don't like the design and the avenue it is going down.
We also, need to make sure that we are both staying on the right track and not going on a tangent. I also, think it will be good if we push each other in areas we are not strong in and then we will also learn from this rather than been a burden on each other.
