Elegant Avenue - Price List A3 & Leaflet

Hannah mentioned to me that she would like me to leave space for further treatments to be added on in the future as she is current planning on taking more & more courses.

I started with the front cover of the leaflet price list because this would be very similar to the business card without the contact information on.

Then I went on to the layout of the actual price list, I have decided to fit the information she has provided me with at the moment on to the double page spread on the inside and leave the back of the leaflet blank of info at the moment so it can be added easily.

I created the leaflet an appropriate size to fit in the leaflet. 10cmx7cm.

When I printed it out I thought it might be a bit small and therefore I wanted to make it bigger although I took it to the crit.

They looked at it in the crit and they did agree that it was rather small. They also spotted mistakes which would have been very embrassing.

I wanted to create the same font for the headline as the elaborate font from the logo. This will help it tie all together. I chose a free font for the bodycopy that would be easily read. She also mentioned that she wanted the gift voucher to be present on the price list which is something I wouldn't have though of so therefore glad she did mention this.

On the back I have left it blank with just the contact info and Hannah's name so it isn't too bland but also so it is easily manipulated!

This is the email she sent me with all the information she wanted to include and prices. I was very nerves when typing this up because the pricing could all be wrong without me knowing and it would be on my back.

I am glad that I have done this last as this is the most detailed design I have done for this product and with the brand becoming more prominent it has become easier to design therefore less time on my design.

This the A3 leaflet although, you can't see the body copy you can see the layout. I have spaced out the bodycopy to fill out the pace and make sure it doesn't look too blank although, this is still got the ability to be kerned together then more space will be allowed for the new treatments. I have also printed one of these with the ability to foil the logo because this is something that will be framed within the salon.

Elegant Avenue - Gift Voucher

This is something Hannah mentioned as I didn't think about this at first thoughts. She already was using a pre-templated voucher and therefore she gave me one to have and work upon. She crossed out things she didn't want and told me the wording she would like.

I wanted to make it look like a present as this is what would be given as a present. I wanted it to look effective without the need of a box or ribbon to make it look presentable.

I decided to start with the back due to the layout of the details etc...

I decided to put all the information that Hannah will fill out in small print and the large space taken up by the consumer to write a message and the receivers name. I think this works well and all details will be clear. I have put the logo on both sides just so there is no confusion when opening the envelope if opening on either side. I decided to use the bow due to this been a main interpretation of an elaborate present. I chose to reduce the opacity of the bow on this side as this is not the main focal on this side.

This is the front of the gift voucher I wanted the logo to be quite apparent but also the bow to be equally noticeable so then the visual impact would be obvious. I have kept the aesthetic the same with the block grey at the bottom with the frame around the whole page.

Luckily I had my own grey bow to photograph from a previous birthday and then deduct the background on photoshop to create a high quality image, as the ones on Google was very pixelated even on a large icon.

Insitue Mock-ups

This is the first mock-up I have done in situ, I thought the idea of branding a fridge is a light sense of promotional material. They don't use promotional material and therefore I think this would be a good alternative.

I have put the bottles in a fridge just to show how they would work when stacked behind each other and how eye catching they are compared to the other drinks.

Tigerprint Card Competition

Firstly I started my breaking down the brief:

I chose to enter the Tigerprint competition as I like design cards & this month it happened to be hand rendered type in which I believe is one of my strengths. You could chose any occasion to design for as long as you did hand rendered type within the design. Here are my developed designs:

The quote had developed from the quote within the research of Home is where the heart is... I think this is very appropriate for the target audience as most of the daughters and sons buying cards for their mothers from Marks & Sparks will have maybe just moved out from home so therefore they will have some comfort knowing how they feel about home etc...

This is a basic design, therefore the lettering is so elaborate that there is no need for any other drawing for example the balloon is taking a background outline to the font. The two colour ink again the crisp white background I don't think that any more colours are needed.

These are my two designs I chose to design for mothers day and birthday for a teenage age range. I am very happy with both of these designs in which I submitted.

These are the submission details..

Although, I didn't get finalised I am still very happy with them. This was a quick turn around brief although, strengthened my quick decision strategy.

Elegant Avenue - Loyalty Card

I have moved onto the design of the loyalty card. I was envisioning that she would do it for nails as this is her main business at the moment but when I contacted her about her offer she would like her loyalty card she said she wanted it to be on spray tans due to the cost of nails it would not be worth it. I have decided to do single sided print for the loyalty card due to there is no need for double sided. I have kept the design similar to the business & appointment card to keep it consistent. I have started using grey as the second colour plus stock as this is the closest colour to silver without foiling as this would be a great expense..

I followed this layout from research also, as this is something that needs to be logical and easily understood without any misinterpretations. I think this works well and is straight to the point. I have chose to add more colour at the bottom with a block of grey to break the blank white stock up with the line continuing round although in alternate colours.

I was thinking about making a stamp for her to use personally for these loyalty cards but there isn't a obvious logo that I could make small enough to create a stamp that will be legible therefore I am unsure whether to proceed with this or not.

Then I set it up for print because this is not double sided this has been so much easier as it doesn't have to be aligned therefore can put as many as I want on once sheet.

Evaluation

This has been the brief I have enjoyed doing the most out of OUGD504. I think that the idea of own direction really pushed me as you could chose what you wanted to do. So therefore if its something you don't like then that is mainly your own fault.

I am very pleased with my final outcomes of the print and then the proposal had kind of taken a side step although, this is what you are suppose to do. I think that I should have spent more time on the print side.

If I was to have more time I would propose how the shop would look and also produce more sweet boxes maybe for candy corn?

The print production has definitely paid off for me and I think the finishing is very strong, I like how I have presented it and thought about all the little details.

This brief has made me think outside the box rather than just doing the expected things I have introduced a strong concept which was given mainly by the ISTD brief.

My App Proposal

I have created an app so that people can get updated and special offers within having to visit to the shop. This is going to have different pages such as whats new in case we get any new news or new sweets in stock. The the special offers page this shows you the offers and takes you to the website if you would like to purchase. Then finally, you can make your own sweetie jar in which you can save in your account an then you can request this to made and pay for it when logged onto the website.

When you download this app you get a discount code that you can put in at checkout to receive a discount of 10%.

My web proposal

I have obviously kept the same style to make it recognisable when your searching online. I like the playful & creative look. I have chose to use circles and illustration to finish off the page. Everything is smoothed off and no sharp strong edges this means its easy to the eye. The billling page is very easy to follow and the website itself is easily navigatable as all ages will be using this website. The links to all social media are at the top. I thought they needed these to promote there gifts for example taking pictures of there gifts on pinterest & instagram for others to see and therefore widen the audience.

Sweetie Jar Labels & Sweetie labels for pic & mix

These are essential to a sweet shop functioning. All the sweets need to be labels so no allergies are passed on etc... And so people are getting what they want. So I have designed the jars how they would look on the shelves as I want it too look vintage & although at the moment they look fiddly. They will be on elastic so you can just pull it over and not fasten the ribbon every time. There would also be a lid for freshness.

This is the sweetie jar labels the circle with polka dots is just my digital idea, I want to have the polka dots in a material with the logo screen printed on. I am going to mock these up but I don't think I will screen print the logo due to time restrictions. I am going to get jars and put the labels on and the tops.

These are the pic & mix labels so these will slot in the containers I was going to put these tongue & cheek quotations on the labels but I wouldn't be able to think of one for every sweet so I thought so I could keep it consistent I would take them off.

Giftcards

I have decided to create gift cards for the shop as you may not know what sweets someone likes inparticular even though you know that someone likes sweets. This would be a good inexpensive gift too as you can put anything on it and you will be able to get something with it due to everything been cheap.

This is the gift card holder, this bottom one is the inside and the top one is the outside. The card sits on top of where it says enjoy and then all the flap fold in with the pointy one to the top. Again it using the same pattern of the polka dots and the same font on the front cover.

This is the card inside. These are all print ready, so therefore this is why it is upside down. so it can be double side printed. I have again used the same fonts. I have also added some illustrations from the wrapping paper on here as it looked blank with just the logo & text.

Evaluation

Overall I am very happy with my website. I started off thinking that I couldn't do it and very demotivated. But when I got something right I was very pleased and made me want to do more.

I think that if I could change anything it would be to be able to put in a slider image on my homepage. This is so I could show a large image of all the websites rather than 4 smaller images.

I think that if we wasn't given this brief I wouldn't have learnt it off my own back, so this has been a good push. Although, I don't think its something I want to do in the future I think its definitely a good prospect to have a basic knowledge of coding.

My organisation skills has taken a toll with this brief due to the wire frames wasn't to hand all the time when I needed to do work and therefore had to do other tasks rather than prioritising this. Which is something I need to think about in the future.

Final Critique

I showed them all my work I had done. Why I had changed my colour and the reasons I have have done the products etc... And how I have added the brief 100 into it.

Although, I didn't think I got valuable feedback as they just said that the illustrations worked very well and this was a strength. My areas to improved was that it maybe too aimed at girls although, I talked about that issue and told them about how I had changed it to purple but wasn't as strong as the pink.
Also they said that Mary Jane Candies where too girly, even though I couldn't change that because that is nothing to do with what I have chosen it to do with what has been around for 100 years.

They told me to look to do it for other sweets and also consider more boys sweets but they obviously don't understand that there is not many sweets that have been invented in that year and that's the concept behind that design.

I think that only reason why they commneted on the Mary Jane Sweets is because they thought the design was girly and because of the name they have made a connection but that is just coincidence rather than what I have chosen so I can't develop upon that so therefore I am not going to action upon this feedback.

Collabouration of 100 Years

I have researched into what sweets have been around for 100 years so I can do a collaboration with these and the shop.

These are the ones I found when searched into them.

Mary Jane Candies -  These are peanut butter candies and where very popular in America
Candy Corn - These are made with real honey.

So I have ordered these from America as you can't get them both over here.

I think I am going to redesign the Mary Candies as these come in a box with wrappers rather than just a cellophane packet.

This this the box for the sweets. As you can see I have kept the similar design just change the colour scheme and added the shop logo. I didn't want to change the box too much so people could recognise them still. I traced over the drawing of the Mary so that the icon was still there. I have printed this onto thick stock.

These are the wrappers for the sweets. I am just going to propose these as I couldn't print it onto anything that was OK to wrap round sweet. As something too thin would just stick to the sweet but something too thick would be too hard to wrap round and keep the paper there.

Loyalty Card & Business card

The business card is going to be simply a business card with the logo & and details on the back.
The loyalty card is going to be a card that gets people to return due to them receive a discount on their next visit.

This is my business card for Gloria the sweet shop owner. I think that this needed to be simple due to when I spoke to her she said she would not really hand out a business card although, if she was to start doing wedding sweetie tables then she would probably need it more. So simple for now but can be expanded & developed upon.

This is now my loyalty card it is set out how it should be for print. I think this is very clear and easily understandable. I have used a similar idea to the Miss Selfridges loyalty card as I got given one the other day and I thought the loyalty treats where very good and not just discount but treats & presents.

Sweetie Bag & Stickers

I am going to design the sweetie bags that pick & mix gets put in because this is a big part of the shop as this is what is probably going to be used the most.

Again I have followed the same design again, although this time I didn't want to put the celebration of 100 years as I thought this is probably going into a bag so therefore they don't need to know it twice. I thought about all the tongue & cheek quotation and my grandad always used to call sweets spice and its always stuck with me. So I then thought of the saying sugar & spice & all things nice.

I have also made this net. I didn't know what kind of bottom to put on it as this is going to be a thin material but going to have a heavy sugar material inside. I have just used the whole surface area and used them as dual ply so it has extra strength.

So this is the net I have created to have a strong base with a thin stock to get the right texture for the paper bags.

I think I am going to jaggeder the edges at the top of the bag to give the real effect of the traditional sweetie bag.

I think I am also going to make some stickers to fasten these bags when folded over.

I thought I would use a underline that has some hand rendered effect to finish off the quote.

So I have created stickers for the bags, I have used the celebrating 100 years as we don't have it written on the bag & also thankyou & enjoy. I have just created circles as this is the best to help stick the sides together.

I have created the circles for the outline on a separate layer so that the vinyl cutter can cut around them so they can peel easily. I thought it need a block colour edge as I wanted it printing onto white sticker paper so therefore the bag will also be white and it will just merge.
