I want to produce canvas bags that are a celebration of the 100 years and then the drawings made for that I want to put into a pattern to make wrapping paper so then they can gift wrap etc...
I have got this idea from my research into sweetie jars. I like the idea of hand drawn type so therefore I am going to mix that within it too to bulk it out.
The common items of a sweetie shop are:
Scales
Boiled sweets
Jars
Lollies
Marshmallow lollies
Old fashioned jars
Sticks in jam jars etc...
So I started by drawing around photos of these items..
And then I removed the image and was just left with the outline. I used black due to me wanting just the outline and this is best colour for that, then I am going to fill in some gaps with pink to match my other designs for my project.
So I have filled in the gaps that I want to be filled with colour and left the others transparent they are going to be the colour of my stock not grey, this is just because its not on my artboard.
Here is another one I traced although, I only traced the jar as I wanted the item inside to be rock & these are too thin to be rock so I drew this freehand.
So I did this for all the images and then for the text I drew these free hand and certain ones are downloaded fonts. The difficult part of this was the separating the colours as when you fill the lines in with colour you have to do it on the same layer so I had to duplicate it onto the second layer then delete all the outlines from that and then delete the fill from the first layer. So this was a long & nagging process.
This is my wrapping paper. I am very happy with the finish of this and although it took a lot of time I think it has been worth it. Although, I do think that this can be put on the canvas bag but needs to be moved around as it needs to have the celebration of 100 years on this also.
This is the final version that I am going to screen print onto canvas bags. This looks a lot more fuller & better laid out compared to the one above. I like the idea of putting the logo on so people can relate to this. I have put the 100 years to the top left as this is where the eye will read from naturally. I tried this in the middle as this is where the eye focuses but it looked weird and didn't fit very well.
This is the proposed bag although, I am going to present this in my final. I think it fits nicely as I used an A4 to measure these. I have ordered my canvas bags online and going to screen print these for hand-in. I like the idea of the stock coming through rather than the white as the natural stock creates the authentic look. Also it will only need two screens which will take long enough.
For my wrapping paper I am going to create more of a pattern which is repeatable rather than set at A4 as this is going to be needed to be bigger.
I haven't put the logo or the celebration on this as that is what was making it less repeatable. And also when you are wrapping or using it for tissue paper you don't see a certain part of it so therefore it would be pointless anyway because its not necessarily going to be seen.
I think I am going to screen print this on to tissue paper& newsprint. But then also print it onto tracing paper down at the digital dungeon just incase the screen print doesn't do it justify or visa versa.
