Yoke Exhibition Entry
Today two third years came in to talk us through the exhibition they are planing to set up. They are wanting to create dialogue between the people that are in the exhibition, so therefore to do they are going to layer up entrees work through screen printing. Then this in theory should begin a conversation between the collaborated work without your involvement.
They went on to say that many studios had already submitted and we could have a chance to be collaborating with them, this made me very excited about this opportunity. Although, the work wouldn't need to be detailed due to them been overlayed and therefore needs to be impactful.
Firstly I created the brief my own:
So I wanted to delve into the idea of communication and different ideas so here is my list I made:
Phone
Text
Letter
Message in a Bottle
Cups
Binary Code
Speech
One-to-One
Body Language
Sign Language
Act
I chose to go with message in a bottle, this is a really traditional method, in which I just think is crazy how someone invited this and is still known today.
This was my inital thoughts in my head what I was visualising but I don't think this is impactful and doesn't explain what it is at first glance.
I thought, maybe by adding a few icons of the sea would make it clearer but this is still not creating an impact and the focus could possibly be taking the focus of the bottle, the most important part of the positive.
Then I decided to put a piece of paper rolled up like it would be when set at see although, I think this is visually appealing I still don't think its impactful and people wouldn't get the message straight away.
Then I thought about titling the bottle by putting the message of the poster in the bottle to create a point of focus. Although, I think that the title is working I don't believe that the font is because of the simplicity, needs to be more scripty because of the handwritten element involved when writing a message to put in a bottle.
This is what I ended up submitting in the end. I am very happy with my finals as I believe that this would work well layered up with another entree's work also. I entered it in portrait and landscape because I thought they both worked equally as well.
This was a very quick turnaround brief which only took me around 5 hours. Which I was very pleased with, this was mainly due my first idea of the message in the bottle working and therefore developing on one concept as I went along.
