Final Decisions

Final Decisions.

I have decided to create a finishings look book with 5 finishes in which also comes with 5 little how to booklets that explain the processes individually in each of them.

I want the booklets to be very hand rendered to reflect the feeling of finishes as they are very hand rendered too.

So far I have drawn my titles for my booklets and also drawn all the images for each of the steps.

These are just a few of my drawings I have done for my booklet. I am very happy with the look of my drawings as I wanted them not to be too perfect so they can see that things don't always come out perfect, just like finishes.

I have started to take off the background as I used a cartridge paper which was a downfall which I will remember for next time, to your printer paper.

How To.. Booklets
Now I have started to develop y pages in my booklet...

Here is one of the pages I have started. I have decided to use a scripty font to mimic the hand rendered title and also the images. I have chose to place the images adjacent to the step and by alternating sides it makes it clear and easy to differentiate between them. And therefore they can skip between things if they can remember a few steps but not them all.

I am unsure if the images are a good enough quality as they are quite pixelated which I don't understand because it isn't like they have been stretch. I think its due to using the magic wand tool as I need to use that to take away the background. I am going to ask others what they think in my crit.

I am also going to laminate each of these pages which I still need to test as I have ordered the laminating pouches off the internet as I wanted matt and everywhere I have looked they don't have them in stock or are very expensive.

Look Book.

I have started some of the pages for my look book:

These are the two pages so far that I have done for my look book. I have decided to not use the same style throughout the book, due to the finishings having different qualities and therefore different things look better. For example foil looks good with thin small details to be foiled. And then the flock works better with thin lines such a type.

I need to still decide how I am going to bind the books and also what stocks as they work better on different stocks just like the different qualities in styles. I think I am going to ask this as one of my questions in the critique.

I need to also work out how I am going to package all the books together so they come as a pack. Although, I dont know if I want to package the little how to books separately due to you been able to take the books into the workshop as they are laminated and wipeable.

Front Cover.

I have started to design the front cover as I have decided on the name Attention to Detail. I thought, with this name I had to create something fancy with small details. So therefore I decided to create the title surrounded by a fancy frame of swirls.

I am very happy with my final design. I like the full page use for the title of the page. And it doesn't give much away. I going to use grey stock with a white ink design. I have put trimming marks on so I can get it more perfectly centered on the front. With the spine info centered on within the spine and not overspilling.

I have decided to link together my book by embossing the front cover of the how to book. And deboss the page in the look book. So you can see the connection between the two rather than having to open the front cover to see the title. If time wasn't an issue I would have screen printed the front cover like the cover of the look book. Here is my laser cut letters to deboss & emboss the pages to create a key.
