Design Development

Design Development.

I have re-read the brief and and decided if I just did do a look book then, this would not fully meet the criteria of the brief. So therefore, I am still going to make a look book but also I am going to make little how to books... for each of the finishings.

But I want my book to be a book you pick up due to its aesthetics, and you want to pick it up & feel the quality. As this is what feelings I get from finishings, when used within design. I want to feel them & pick them up because they give it quality & give it more value.

I have started to look for quotations for the look book. I want these to be short & sweet but relate to the finish personally without been about the finish:

Design with a little sparkle.
Make it happen.
Foiling never fails?
The magpie moment.
Scratching the surface.
Wake up & smell the print.

I thought of many which I research into extensively to find quotes that had relevance to the finish. There I thought about what the finish look like, the word itself & what was related to the finish.

Beneath the surface - Laser cut
Lets flock together - Flocking
Make an Impression - Embossing
Make an Impact, Let it Shine - Spot Varnish
Magpie Moment - Foiling

I think these are all very relevant and was very impressed with my choices of quotations. I have chosen to do only 5 as I need to still develop the how to books. I need to write the content & draw the illustrations.

I have also decided to create a stock book to show what works best on what papers. Also, the different flocks & foils etc... Although, this would make the audience to be just to LCA unless I commented saying these was just a small selection of choice which is out there. But then what is the point for this stock swatches.

I have tried to look online where to buy other flocks & foils but you have to buy them in large bulks and they are very expensive so therefore I have decided that I am not going to create a stock book.

Now going on to the title of the book.

Attention to detail.

Last minute touches.

I have decided to go with attention to detail. This because I did like last minute touches but this relates them to been quick & they are not so therefore it would be irrelevant. I also did like pick your eye candy, but I wasn't sure if this was a good title as the quotations are so thought out for the finishings that you don't just pick subject for a finishing you pick the finishing for the subject. So therefore eye candy is saying that you can pick any for anything just to make it look good & this is not necessarily good design.

Title: Attention to Detail
This is going to be my heading as these are the detail within the design and you have to plan these before creating your design. It brings out the important details within design but also get attention to your work too.

I have also started writing my own content. The step-by-step guides, of how to flock, foil, lasercut, spot varnish & emboss/deboss. I wrote it by hand quickly first. Then I typed it up to refine & make sure the steps make sense. Here the wrote up version is:
