Laser Cutting
I decided to laser cut to be able to test out the embossing work shop due to the copper plate been a very long process and although the quality will lack I will understand and know how to work the nipping press better.
So I decided I wanted to emboss my logo as this is what I wanted to do for my business card last year but left it too late and now I understand why. I also wanted to make something to remind myself of the other techniques that you can do on the laser cutter too.
At first we tried to use a construction wood which we thought would have been a good stock as it was thick & a nice wood texture. Although, it just kept going round the same circle over & over again which scared me and i lifted the lid as an emergency stop. So I did try it again but it did the same thing. Then Sam tried it too and it went round many times on hers but didn't successfully cut through the wood. When we asked the technicians they said it was a tricky setting to do, when now thinking on it I think mine would have worked if having leaving it in longer. As I remember you can set it to go round multiple times if the stock is very thick.
This one I used raster which I have now realised I have done it wrong due to not colouring the centre of the drawing and just doing outline. As it burnt through does to the small area it was rastering between. I did do this effect for my speaking from experience box below and this is also when I had my induction for this brief. So was good to refresh my memory as there is a lot of little things you need to remember.
This is my second go at the decoration, I decided to just etch the outline rather than trust the chances of non of them working as I didn't know what the problem was and therefore I would also be experimenting more.
Overall I do like the laser cutter due to I love intricate things and would like to use this a lot more in this year. I think the finish you get it a lot better than when you do with scalpel etc...
