Embossing
Embossing
So after we created the laser cut embossing plates out of ply wood, we went down to vernon to emboss.
We went to get a variety of stocks to see what works best for the embossing as different papers work differently.
Our stocks we chose are:
Water colour Paper
Bulky Newsprint
Sugar Paper
Cartridge Paper
I had to put down tissue paper as this is what the tutor told us works best after his experimentation, then the board with the logo facing back to front and then laying the paper on the top with a thick wad of tissue paper also on top. The we went through the process of sliding in the board then tightening nob 1 then pumping the stick. Push in nob 2 then pump even more till the hand on the pressure is just under half way and then undo the tension by releasing nob 1. Then the master piece has been created. Here is my embossed paper:
I did this for experimentation because I thought that if I didn't rotate it on the laser cut then it would work also but this proved my point wrong.
This is was a simple & quick process which I didn't expect and the quality we received was very shocking due to it was better than we thought due to the use of laser cutter rather than a copper plate. Sam's did work better than mine this is due to her having a small surface with her logo cut out only so it wasn't placed in a circle so had more surface area to press around where as mine had to be compressed in to a small area.
We found that the paper that worked the best when been embossed is the water colour. This is because it has lots of fibers as its made to be porous.
