We had to pick out 3 pieces of paper from jar 1 and one from jar 2.
Out of Jar 1 we got: Lens, Lamp & Cushion.
Out of Jar 2 we got: Bar.
So we decided to brain storm each of the words from jar 1 but without thinking of the word bar from jar 2.
Here are our brainstorms, we also got the definitions with the words from jar 1. So this helped with our brainstorming too:
Then we decided to define bar, as we was getting confused in what we thought was a pub and a bar. There are so many types of bars that I didn't even know of:
We was debating between the words Lamp & Lens due to we was thinking of having a Chinese lantern bar and then having somewhere for Chinese international students to go. But then I said that it may be not the right audience due to the Chinese lanterns and having Chinese decorations is cliché for what we think China is like and not what they would feel home within.
So we decided to go with lens due to most bars not been related to anything we thought of related to lens as most bars have big back cushion chairs and also nice posh lamps etc...
So we started looking into eyes and contact lenses then we got on to the subject of bugs eyes due to how they see differently to us. Then when we started researching we noticed that bees eyes are actually called lenses and they have 100 of them.
So then Sarah came up with the idea of the name The BeerHive.
Then from this we then thought that we could make our own beer and ale like bees make honey. And make drinks only that have honey in so that this can be a clear concept within the drinks and that will relate back to the concept of bees.
I then decided to look for somewhere to look where we could get local honey from this is a Headingley farm and they sell it in there farm shop where they put it in jars when sourced from the bee hive.
The target audience, we did struggle with as we didn't want it to be a student bar and we thought that we wouldn't have a specific age range and more for people have an interest in homemade ale and also maybe honey.
We then went on to think about that without bees that out lifestyles would massively be effected as someone mentioned that there was a charity on Briggate that was asking for donations due to they are becoming extinct. And this is bad for society, as they use if for pollinating things such as tea, mango & garlic.
So therefore, we decided to look into bee charity's and the one we decided to use was the bumblee conservation trust and we decided that 5p from every drink will be donated to this charity and 10p from our own drinks would be donated to make people buy more of our own drinks rather than own brands.
Then Loraine came round and asked us about our target audience and we mentioned the idea of brewing our own ale and beer. She brought to our attention that this is only attracting mainly a male clientele as not many women drink ale and beer.
Then we decided on the colour scheme of mustard brown & wood furnishings to go with the theme of bees and nature. And also a bar in the middle of the bar so that it is representing the queen bee and all the bees swarming around the bar. The bar would also be shaped in a hexagon due to the honeycomb for the hives. And also, we would have pentagons at the back of bar like wine racks but with a little more of our concept added into it.
This is the drawing Sarah did of where the bar would be located in the middle of the booths which are also shown above in a image I found on the internet which I thought would be a perfect example of what would be good in the bar.
Then we all thought we could create logos and then chose the best one one to put on the presentation.
