Message & Delivery: Mail Shot

Mail Shot

This was my initial idea for the stereotyping of criminals i wanted a line of professional people so therefore saying would you think any of these would be a criminal just because of there uniform... Or a line of people in different industries such as builder, chef, business man etc... and then saying what makes someone a look like more of a criminal?
Although I did try looking on the internet for the type of photos that i wanted although i was too particular and if i had more time would have had my own photo shoot to make sure i get the correct images. So instead i decided to go for more of a silhouette in a business man outline to say just because of his uniform would you make a decision on whether he was a criminal or not?

Also thought about doing a middle aged woman with sophistication and a business woman to see if they would judge them as criminals? Although when looking back at this i don't think it would have the right effect.

This is my final set of images to include on my leaflets within my mail shot. I have chosen to go towards the silhouette look so more of a mystery person rather than labeling someone as that is the message i am trying to send out. This is these are the images i am going to use for my stereotyping and re offending leaflets to be put in my mail shot envelope.

This is my mailing list which didn't have a restricted size so therefore decided to go for a normal A4 size. I tried doing different colours and adding extra factors such as guilty stamp. Although i don't think it has worked very well institute. The plain background allows the text to be clearly seen more than with the red background. The silhouette i have used in the same composition with the speech bubble coming out to allow the brief to match throughout.

This is my stereotyping leaflet. I am using double sided printing to allow it to be image and small amount of text on one side and information on the other. I have highlighted the keyword and points out with the red writing to help people glance as i understand its a lot of text for the 11cmx22cm leaflet. Here again i have wrote a statement about how people feel when they come out of prisoner from a real prisoners comment when exiting prison themselves. I have used the contrast of colours with using plain background and red background although i think the white has a more effective look i have used red background within the other leaflets so therefore have used red background although i think it becomes more striking and therefore makes you want to read it.

This is my re offending leaflet to put in my mail shot envelope. This is again double sided printing and has information on one side and then small info and image on the other. I have tried it within both colours i think the red background brings more attention to the leaflet and i have brought the image and type together by attaching the black of the suit to the words which relate most to the business man. And yet again i have highlighted the main keywords in red to allow people the scan through and then read deeper into the info in wanting to.

This is my privileges leaflet this is the main one which i will be the main shocker to the audience as they are the ones paying for the privileges within prison. I have choose to draw the images from my posters and just lay them out in a more clustered way with extra images in gaps. I chose not to put type on this as i wanted it to be more closer interlinking next to each other than cramped with type. Again i have followed the same suit of highlighting keys words especially the money and percentages to catch the tax payers eyes.

I decided that i wanted to know if my leaflet was working so decided to create a small campaign where they can send something off to the governments prison administrators office, i have included a freepost so people don't have to spend money and go out of there way to send off. Also a simple tick box and option to write further comments and it is completely anonymous.

This is the mock up of my envelope, as i had to work out a net for the envelope to be a box. I have decided to have it 1cm depth as if it is any less the scoring will become too close and therefore become overly flexible. I have used a little touch such as handcuffs for the idea of unlocking the handcuffs when you open the envelope which is the message i am sending out of stop the short sentences so unlock the prisoners on short sentences. And also, the guilty stamp on the front to make the reader want to open it to find what it is about. Here you can see how i have placed the handcuffs on opposite side to allow them to match up.

This is my envelope printed out from the computer although i believe the address is too large and needs scaling down. I moved the tabs to the top where the address is so therefore i wouldn't have to do double sided printing and it would still work well.

This is my final version which i have created on illustrator, i have placed the handcuffs so that they match up when they fold. And i have made the type smaller for the address so the guilty stamp is still a main focus.

This is one of my 5 final envelopes. Although they are not as strong as i wanted them to be. I think the idea is strong and invites you to want to open it.

Printing Issues

I chose to print onto watercolour paper as it was a thick stock therefore would be good for my strength of my envelope too. But the block colour was coming out very well onto the paper. And therefore creating a grainy effect.

Then i decided to use cartridge paper. Although this is still not perfect i had run out of money to be able to print it again on a better paper. Also, i found you could not run multiple copies at the same time as each time it would become less and less inked up and the print would become very pale.
