Alphabet Soup Illustrator

Illustrator Brief

I first started to create a small pattern to mask my alphabet. I used lines with different strokes and weights. Including different brush definitions. Here was my first attempt at creating the lines to create the mask for the letter.

This is my first attempt and as you can see it only just fit within the largest glyph. Although this meant that all the letters had to same strokes within them and looked to conformist i wanted it to look more random and glowing in different parts. So i decided to move the strokes around each time i created a different letter to make each one more unique. This is my final A1 poster.

This is what i thought would be my final piece, but then lucky i reread the brief to understand that the colour that is been used has to be a full CMYK colour and not shades of the CMYK colour so therefore had to redo the whole alphabet.

So here i started again to redo the alphabet using the full colour of CMYK and just using capacities of the colour. This is more a brighter glowing colour anyway so therefore makes more sense when i have thought about the colour issue.

Then i realised that a quicker progress of creating the alphabet would be to make a larger pattern for the mask and therefore the letters can be placed throughout the mask without repeating the pattern all the same time.

So placing these in different places gives off different effects and this is perfect for the word glow due to you never get the same glow each time. Then i placed them in the same grid i used before which i used to great for my Alphabet Soup Typeface.
This is my final for the brief Alphabet Soup Illustrator I am very happy with the finishing piece as i think it portrays the word GLOW very well. I have also included glyphs as it seemed too simple to just do the alphabet letters only so thought I would also included 6 glyphs also.
I havent experimented with many ideas for this brief due to the word glow is very limiting i only really relate the colour yellow with glow and i could exactly replicate my 10x10 as i used black card and chalk and therefore due to this been a computer briefing only you can't print white ink and therefore would not make it possible to replicate. I choose to replicate in the idea of the way it glows so within the letterforms shape.

Evaluation

From this brief i have now learnt how to use my time effectively by reading the brief thoroughly before starting it and also how to think of how to mass produce something before starting a complicated way. I think it has been very successful and does portray my given word GLOW very well. This is mainly due to the colour but also to the use of glowing lines and bold colour lines to give interest within the letterforms.
