InDesign Salamander
After looking at the brief we decided to set a page to fir the criteria for the brief as we split the width of the page as it needs to be two pages in the A3 so they are divided. The number of pages we want is 2 and they need to be facing. We also, thought it would be best to have a 3mm bleed as we may be working of the page.
When you have created the page and click OK there will be a single page that come sup you then need to click new page icon at the bottom of the pages palette so make a double page spread. As it automatically thinks that you want to make 2 back to back pages.
These should be the print settings when printing because you only need to print the last 2 pages as there will always be a single page at the top when setting it up.
You need to highlight the two pages you want to make a grid on then click on the grids tab at the top and this box pops up you then can change to your preference as you can chose preview so you can change it and find the best view as it changes when you change it.
Then you need to take your photo into photoshop by right click and clicking edit with photoshop then you go to image size and check the scale of the photo on indesign by dragging the box at the bottom of the palette at the side and then change the centimeters to percent and change the percentage to the same as the scale on the info on indesign. Then save. It will automatically save and change on indesign. You need to make sure you have clicked restrain image as then you can not change any of the pixels of the image. The resolution needs to be 300DPI.
Then unclick resample image and change the bottom panel to what is the best for what you are doing with description in brackets.
At first I started to design a DPS on randall out of Monsters inc, as I liked the challenge of aiming at children. I found a website with facts of how many times he scares people what his rate is and his highest score etc... So thought I could include this information. So here is my development.
I have decided now to not design randall as it was hard to find 500 words on this subject. So therefore I am still going to design it for children but use it as a factfile.
But then I realised that I wanted this too be just blank on the right with title and then text on the left but on white blocks with like a typewriter font and therefore would have to have a large point size so I decided to change my idea again and go for a normal audience of people looking to find more interest in amphibians etc...
So then I thought about having the title over lap the pages and then interlink within the paragraphs but then I thought it was too plain and wasn't fitting for the subject. So I decided to add some block colour within it. I also wanted to add a short summary of what a salamander is for quick reading.
So I started by doing some thumbnail designs for the layout. And then I will digitally produce some of them:

MY FINAL
I chose to use a 3x4 grid for my DPS as this gives you lots of chance to play around with them. rather than a restricted layout. I like the use of colour within it relating to the subject as it brings out the title and therefore is the most important factor on the page. The you see the short summary underneath and read that then you can go on and read the full DPS. I have included a drop cap also to interlink with the block colour on the left. I have also adjusted the colours in the bottom right picture to fit in with the vibrant yellow black & white colour scheme.
