Self Promotion Package Development

Self Promotion Package Development.

LOGO DEVELOPMENT:

These were the my initial sketches on the computer after I decided what style I wanted from my hand rendered logos. I think I am going to go with the colour scheme grey, purple & white stock. The use of a purple logo is going to make is stand out against the grey background.

I am unsure whether I like the m on this one as I think it looks childish and doesn't flow.

This I think is a very good logo and has the fluent movement throughout which I wanted to emphasis. I think I am going to use this for my final logo. And then cut out the circle and around the lettering to reveal a purple stock behind this is to make it more hand rendered as I like this style.

I created a pattern as I would have liked to screen print onto tissue paper if I had time to wrap up the material in the box I am going to make.  Although I had to use the original logo with the childish m as it didn't work with the final and therefore maybe use the logo within the logo repeated on the sheet.

BUSINESS CARDS:

I am wanting to use the logo as the main focus on the business card! I didn't know whether to add the word graphic designer or not as I wanted the clean look so I thought using a light grey against the white background will still look clean and crisp.
In my research I found lots of landscape business cards & I thought it was something different rather than a bog standard business card. I think that this could be more difficult to put information on as the length is shorter and therefore my email address may not fit on and wouldn't want to lower the point size or have it extending onto two lines.

Then I thought about putting my full name also on as this is now saying my name. I think that this will then break down the information on the back. Although, I think I could get away with just having all the information on the back of the business card.

This is my final I am going to place it off centre and taking up over quarter of the card then on the reverse have all the information that is needed.
This is the final for the business card I am going to cut out the circle and around the lettering to leave just the name Mel and then revealing the purple stock through the cutting. Then I am going to stick that behind and then stick on the back piece of the business card on white stock with all the information on as It would not be possible to print onto purple stock with my colour scheme as grey you wouldnt be able to see and the white you are unable to print unless screen printing. Therefore the purple card will be sandwiched between the two white stocks.

These are all the variations that I developed through to get to the last one. The bottom one is my final and I like the use of bringing the purple also onto the back and is still subtle rather than having a different font for my name to make it stand out. Placing the text to the bottom right corner is reflecting the front of the card and therefore bringing them together.

POSTCARDS:

I wanted to create postcards that suggested what I need and what I want and what helps to break down what I think is important and what I just want. These are the finals, I chose to create in a typographic layout due to the use of random works and therefore gave it some consistency. The colour scheme has been used throughout again.

On the reverse of the postcards I chose to recreate an actual postcard even though its not something they would send away. I manipulated my logo into the stamp area and also then decided to write my own paragraph about why I want it and so forth and why it helps if it does?

 SWATCH BOOK OF QUOTES:

I then decided that I wanted to create a mini swatch book with quotes on each page. That have reflected me within my year or what I believe in. I illustrated them all and then scanned them in to acheive this style above then I manipulated it on photoshop adding colour and neatening it up. Then joined them all together using a binding post.

 BOOK:

This is the book I created about my work and what I have done and how I came about my final. I did around 6 briefs and photographed them and then changed them all to monochrome as then they would all fit together as they all had different colours in them. I did title pages stitched inbetween every brief. This was the hardest and longest part by far, but the outcome worked very well & I was very proud of it.

CHOCOLATE:

Finally I have created a label for chocolates as a little light-hearted touch. I have related this through on my postcards I have put that chocolate is something I want which is obviously not a good thing. But when I was researching it told me that chocolate releases chemicals that improves creativity. And therefore I have put this on the reverse.

EVALUATION:
What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have learnt lots within this module I have been opened to a whole new world of blogs & designers that have heavily influenced my design. And also it has taught me about how many disciplines within graphic design there actually is due to coming to the course I didn't think there was that much you can do within graphic and didn't know you could choose a specialist area.

What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have approached PPP in the last brief by allowing to brand myself as a designer, this is a great interest in mine and has given me the chance to explore branding as I haven't worked in this area before. I have been able to work with grid and layout also through this project which has given me a more professional look and also learnt how to included hand rendered and digital together successfully.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
My analysis skills have improved alot and I am able to see the different within areas of graphic design. This will help me in the future in critiques and also reflecting on others work and also my own.
Second strength is time management I have been able to complete tasks to all given deadlines and kept the ongoing tasks ongoing throughout my first year. I have found that this has helped with all modules as I can use PPP as an area which interlinks all modules.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
I have mentioned in my presentation that I am good at time management and keeping things to deadlines but when it come to blogging my work I mostly leave it till the last minute and therefore am blogging the night before deadline and also miss vita information out.
Secondly, I have not reflected on each task when going along which is a major downfall and therefore this is something I can work on next year and become more efficient with.

Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1) I will blog my reflection & evaluation on time and not leave til last minute. As then I will know how it has informed at the point in time rather than only reflecting at the end.

2) I need to make sure I keep up with my blogging as I finish one thing I need to blog before I continue on to the next task from the brief this way I will always be on top of my blogging and i will not lack in quality.

3)I will also keep my work to a steady rate rather than leaving it all to the last minute. Therefore maybe having a few days to rectify any problems rather than just having to deal with them.
